OK just as of today, we MAY have found a school for Tristan at last! It's called "New Connections Academy" and it is a brand new school built and designed specifically for High Functioning Autistic kids... Which means it has all the physical, sensory supports for autism, but is geared academically for bright kids who are above average intelligence!
They have just opened up 2 new classrooms, so they have plenty of space! I am going to visit the school tomorrow and meet the principal + admissions director, (who sounded genuinely nice!)
It is in Palatine, IL, about 40 mins drive away (not as far as some schools)....
It all depends on a) how the school looks and feels when I see it, and b) whether they still have "room" for Tristan when they read his behavior reports in his I.E.P.!
The main reason for the other schools turning him down has been either a) he is too academically advanced, and / or b) his behavior is too disruptive + they don't have the supports...
Please keep all fingers and toes crossed for us for this school to work out... If they accept him, he could start there on January 5th. We would take him to visit before Christmas and get him all prepared for the transition during the holiday break...
