Tristan's New School - finally the right fit!

Just wanted to let you know (since many of you have been asking)... Tristan is doing REALLY well so far at his new school! :-) He came home with 100% on his daily report today!! He has only had one "bad day" at school so far - I'm glad they've actually seen one of his melt-downs first hand - so they know what to expect... But they also know how marvelous it is when he manages NOT to have a melt-down!!

We are seeing him being much happier and more positive at home too - of course he still gets irritated and agitated, but not to the extreme that he was... Still, it could all be a "honeymoon" period and he could crash again - but so far, so good... (fingers crossed)..

Dave and I went to their monthly parent meeting last night, at the school, which was really nice... They provided free pizza and soft drinks, and we got to meet some of the other parents and teachers, and they gave a presentation on "sensory integration dysfunction" which was really good... What a lovely school!! It's very much like the therapy clinic in La Grange that he goes to, only it's his full time school!!... Wonderful therapists, teachers, all so caring, kind and dedicated...

They are respecting his desire for "hard math" and giving him 6th grade math exercises to complete... Altogether, the work I've seen coming home has been of a good academic level, and looks interesting and fun... So it's not all just therapy (although he's been getting "OT" EVERY DAY!) - It seems he's also getting a good education, with work that seems relevant and interesting to him...

And, he goes off to school happily every day - he likes his driver, and seems to have a positive journey each way... Not to mention the fact that he's been in a stretch limo 3 times now! (Instead of the regular town car they usually provide)... He really loves this! (They told me they might have to send a limo if they ran out of town cars!)

He's been talking about a couple of friends he's made, and actually tells me about some of the things he's seen and done (rare!)... He seems really positive and proud of himself!

Will keep you updated... I'm so grateful to all of you who have offered sympathy, support and help during the last painful 4 months... Thank you!
