Water Skiing Fun, July 28, 2011
--------------------------------------------This wonderful water-skiing opportunity was provided by the "Aquanut Adaptive Waterski program". A not-for-profit group, run by volunteers, aimed at kids and adults with disabilities (and their families too). One of the volunteers was Tristan's occupational therapist at his special school for autism. We all had a blast!
Tristan and Sophie went many times on the "chair ski" - It was so easy, they didn't even have to hold on. Here's Sophie flying with her arms out!
And here's Tristan - It was such good therapy for him - The water and the movement really relaxes him:
And then we all tried the standing-up skiing. There was a bar jutting out on the side of the boat for us to hold on to. This made it easier than skiing at the back of the boat, in the wake! The kids did really well with this - They managed to stay standing up for about 10 - 20 seconds...
Here's me, concentrating very hard, and holding on for dear life! (Later on, I did manage to stand up and straighten my arms, but alas, no cameras were around at the time - of course!)
Getting the "hang" of it.... slowly getting up....
After this first attempt, I managed to stay standing up for nearly 2/3 of the entire lap around the lake - (about 5 minutes I think!)
Afterwards, my arms and legs turned to jello! And now, 2 days later, I'm still sore! I never knew how much muscle power water-skiing takes up! Phew! Still, a wonderful experience.
